Full description:

We are seeking several first or second year law students to help us expand the award winning consumer-oriented information on www.FreeAdvice.com and to build out legal self-help content for an affiliate organization.

FreeAdvice® has been the nation’s leading consumer legal “advice” site since 1995. It provides extensive, unbiased, and accurate legal information and general legal advice, free. The many thousands of questions and answers and articles cover common personal and business-oriented legal topics in over 100 legal fields.

We are seeking excellent writers and editors to help us edit our existing content and to help us write new content designed for individuals who can and want to handle some of their own legal affairs without an attorney. As such, we are looking primarily for students who have previous experience in writing and/or editing, preferably as journalists, but we will also consider other writing or editing experience that demonstrates the ability to write for the general public. Attention to detail is a definite plus!
These are summer positions (full-time preferred, part-time possible) that can lead to part-time work during the academic year and/or future full-time employment. Hours are flexible and telecommuting is a possibility depending on individual circumstances.

Responsibilities include
* Edit and expand existing questions and articles in consumer-friendly plain English.
* Research and confirm that the legal information on our main website remains current and reflects recent legal developments.
* Research and write articles on a variety of legal topics for a self-filer.

Although the focus will be on writing for consumers rather than legal professionals, and does not entail traditional in-depth legal research of all nuances, accuracy is critical and legal research will be involved.

Skills/Qualifications
Candidates should be first or second-year law school students with good grades and excellent writing and editing talents who work quickly and accurately, are nice people with total integrity, and must be fully respectful of copyrights. A background in journalism is a plus.

Must be web-savvy and facile in use of standard word processing programs.

Compensation
$15 an hour, plus bonus potential and opportunity for part-time work during the academic year and beyond.

Interested law students are asked to submit a cover letter, a resume, and short sample of their writing to the email address below.
FreeAdvice.com is a unit of Advice Company. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.

*As a subject of email write "Law Students as Legal Writers – Paid Summer Intern Positions (sausalito)"
