Title: Senior Analyst
Position Overview:
Guidewire Group’s analysts, led by co-founder Chris Shipley, generate a wealth of information on nascent technology companies and are able to identify market trends long before traditional IT research or media firms do.
Responsibilities:
• Research Skills: Conduct primary and secondary research focused on startup companies in the analyst’s coverage area. Present research findings, recommendations and advice to clients via written publications, face-to-face meetings at Guidewire Group-sponsored conferences and other venues, presentations and/or consulting engagements.
• Analytical Skills: Independently identify business opportunities and challenges facing companies and markets and analyze the situation from various perspectives. Accurately apply quantitative and qualitative techniques to offer insight around each company and market. Apply these skills to deliver analytical tools such as forecasts, polls and surveys.
• Writing Skills: Author concise, yet compelling written company and market profiles based on his or her own and other Guidewire Group research. Deliver a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis of the company or market and forecast potential developments along with actionable recommendations when appropriate.
• Communication Skills: Clearly and articulately present and discuss both the analyst’s own research and other relevant Guidewire Group information. Defend Guidewire Group’s research methodology and conclusions. Employ diplomatic skills when presenting information to clients.
• Knowledge: Maintain a current knowledge of relevant ISVs, service providers and hardware manufacturers. Understand and analyze the strategy, positioning and prospects of these vendors. Predict the changing dynamics of market and vendor offerings.
• Relationship Management: Build relationships with industry executives that provide value and demonstrate thought leadership based on appropriate research and industry knowledge. Manage relationships with all key external client contacts by responding in a timely manner to customer requests, anticipating client needs and continually adding value to the client relationship. Communicate and interact at a high level with major vendors and customers to understand their visions and offerings.
• Community Building Skills: Be an active participant in Guidewire Group’s blog. Maintain strong relationships in Guidewire Group’s online community.
• Presentation: Participate in and present at Guidewire Group-sponsored conferences, events and teleconferences.
• Collaboration: Manage analysts who are contributing coverage in the senior analyst’s area of expertise. Work with other analysts to extend our research coverage and to forge alignment with the Guidewire Group’s vision and mission.
Qualifications:
• 6+ years of relevant industry experience in the analyst’s specific coverage area. Experience can be on the vendor or IT buyer side, and a mix of both is ideal.
• 3+ additional years of research or industry experience strongly preferred. May include coverage of the industry for relevant publications.
• 3+ years of analyst experience in the technology industry.
• A track record of interacting with high-level clients and other external parties in a professional capacity.
• Exceptional writing skills.
• Exceptional public speaking skills.
• Strong academic record of achievement — M.S. degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as in a team environment.
